KENNETT, Mo. -- The final figures are in on the money raised during Kennett Crossroads.
The two-night concert event in January that brought together Sheryl Crow, David Nail, Trent Tomlinson and Noll Billings netted a $190,267.18 profit, Kennett School superintendent Chris Wilson said. The proceeds were split between the Kennett High School performing arts and athletic departments.
The Performing Arts Department purchased upgrades in sound and lighting equipment. Those were done in time for the spring play, "Seussical the Musical."
Money for the Athletic Department is set aside for the capital improvement project being planned for Metz Cherry Stadium. The school board is finalizing plans for a new ticket booth/concession/restroom facility there.
Looking back on the event, Wilson called it a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"You've got four great artists -- homegrown talent. It's a direct reflection on the community and the school district. When you look back on it, you think that's an amazing event that took place, and you're very fortunate to be part of it," he said.
"On the night of the concert, there were individuals on the Educational Foundation, individuals involved with the school, and there were community members that stepped up and helped and were very instrumental in it."
Besides the funds split between the two departments, the planning committee for Crossroads decided to make a $10,000 donation from the concert proceeds to the Kennett Educational Foundation for all its help with the concert as well as the contribution the foundation has made to the school district over the years.
