PERRYVILLE -- The filing period for the April 5 Perryville municipal and school board elections opens Tuesday.

In the city of Perryville, those offices up for election include mayor, city collector, city marshal, municipal judge and an aldermanic post from each of the three city wards.

The two-year mayoral seat pays $3,700 annually, and the two-year aldermanic seats pay $2,400 annually. Mayoral candidates must be 25 and registered voters in Perryville.

Aldermanic candidates must be at least 21 and registered voters and residents of the city for at least a year preceding the election.

The city marshal's office is a four-year term, with annual compensation totalling $28,000 in the first year, $29,500 in the second, $31,000 in the third, and $32,500 in the fourth year.

The city collector, who's elected to a two-year term, is paid 4 percent of annual gross collections up to a top salary of $16,000 annually. The minimum salary is $14,000.

The municipal judge also will serve a two-year term. Compensation for the part-time position is $550 per month, or $6,600 annually.

The city judge must be between the ages of 21 and 75 and a Perry County resident. The candidate also must not hold another city office.

Filing for the offices opens at 8 a.m. Tuesday, and closes at 5 p.m., Feb. 1. Candidates should file with the city clerk in Perryville's city hall.

Two positions on the Perry County School District 32 Board of Education also will be decided April 5. Expiring are the three-year terms of June Bodenschatz and Dennis Martin.

Voters also will decide two seats on the Altenburg school board, where the three-year terms of Mary Hunt and Gary Sachs are set to expire.

The school board filing period is the same as for the Perryville municipal election, and candidates may file with the secretaries of the two school districts boards.
