The filing period for upcoming area school board elections opens Dec. 13 and ends Jan. 17.
Candidates can file for election or re-election for three-year terms.
There are two seats open in the Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City school districts for elections to be held April 3.
In Cape Girardeau, members whose terms will expire in April are those of Kyle McDonald and Deneké Murphy.
McDonald has served on the board since April 2006. Murphy was appointed in August to replace Luther Bonds, who resigned his seat to take a position within the school district.
In Jackson, the terms of Cathy Goodman and Brent Wills will expire. In Scott City, the terms of Gary Miller and Keith Simpson will expire. There is no limit on the number of terms an individual can serve consecutively.
Members of a school district's board of education must be U.S. citizens and resident taxpayers of the district, must have resided in Missouri for one year preceding their election or appointment and be at least 24 years old.
Interested persons may file at their district's board office during regular business hours, which vary by district.
