Tuesday is the final day to file for federal, state and county offices in Missouri.
The race attracting the most candidates in Cape Girardeau County so far for the Aug. 3 primary election is presiding commissioner. Through Thursday, six people had filed for the office. The Republicans in the primary are Chris Hutson, a financial adviser for Edward Jones; Clint Tracy, a state representative in the 158th Missouri House District; Stephen Daume, a farmer from Daisy; Charles Brawley, a former member of the Cape Girardeau Fire Department; and Doyle Parmer, town clerk for Dutchtown. Brian Thomas of Gordonville will run as a Democrat.
Second District Commissioner Jay Purcell has been rumored to enter the race but has yet to file for office. Purcell said if he decides to file he will make the announcement through a news release.
Other races in Cape Girardeau County include collector, county clerk, prosecuting attorney and party central committee men and women. Associate circuit judge seats are also on the ballot.
The winners of the primaries will then face off in the Nov. 2 general election.
