Area school boards have several new candidates for April's elections and filing is closed.
Filing for April school board elections across the state ended at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Four candidates filed in Scott City. Chris Clayton filed Tuesday afternoon. Incumbent Gary Miller filed for re-election in December. Miller's term and that of Keith Simpson are expiring. Simpson did not file for re-election. Other candidates are Roger R. Buckner and Beth McDonough-Cox.
In Perryville, Mo., incumbent Kevin Bachmann filed for re-election in December. Other candidates are Mark Gremauld, Linda Reinwald-Pickup, Janette Call and Jim Johnson. Bachmann and Jim Bauwens have expiring terms. Bauwens did not file for re-election.
There were no new filings Tuesday in Cape Girardeau or Jackson.
In Cape Girardeau, incumbents with expiring terms, Deneke' Murphy and Kyle McDonald, both filed for re-election in December. Lynn Ware filed Friday.
In Jackson, incumbent Brent Wills was the only candidate with an expiring term to file. Cathy Goodman did not file for re-election. Wills will be joined on the ballot by Paul Stoner and Pat Wissman.
In area districts, two seats are available on each board for three-year terms, and the two candidates with the most votes in the April 3 election will win the seats.
