CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The 1991 Cancer Gala "An Evening in the Mediterranean," has been planned for April 6 at the A.C. Brase Arena Building in Cape Girardeau.
The fifth-annual fund raiser kicks off at 7 p.m. with seven cocktail buffets held at various homes in Cape Girardeau. The gala will start at 8:30 p.m. at the Arena Building. Previous galas have seen the building packed with more than 400 guests for the evening of food, dancing and entertainment.
Music for the event begins at 9 p.m. and continues until 1 a.m. The New Orleans band "E.L.S.," an eight-piece ensemble featuring three singers with a Motown/ "Big Chill" type of sound, will perform.
The grand raffle will feature a 1991 Mercury Capri. Chances on the car, which can be seen on display at West Park Mall, are $100. The winner need not be present at the gala to win. The car was partially donated by Ford Groves of Cape Girardeau.
Tickets for the gala are $110 per couple and include the cocktail buffet and dinner/dance. All proceeds go to the fund cancer research and treatment.
Hosts of the cocktail buffets are Dr. and Mrs. Charles McGinty, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Rust, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Cozean, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Estes, Dr. and Mrs. Jay Sheets with Carol Sheets, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lynn and Mr. and Mrs. John Oliver Jr.
A committee formed last fall has organized the event. The committee is headed up by Mr. and Mrs. David McKinney of Cape Girardeau.
