Donations are at a low point again in the 1995 Toy Box toy drive, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Jaycees and the Southeast Missourian.
"We're real low," said Mike Seabaugh, co-chair of the toy drive.
Volunteers have been sorting donated toys and using cash donations to shop for toys to help under-privileged children have a merry Christmas. Target and Kmart in Cape girardeau have agreed to discount toy purchases for the toy drive.
Volunteers are worried there might not be enough toys to go around.
"We've only filled about 75 bags out of 325 applications," Seabaugh said. "We've got quite a bit of work to do and not much to work with."
It was announced Friday that the application for Toy Box and Salvation Army Christmas Baskets will be extended until Monday, Dec. 11, because of Friday's bad weather.
Allications will be taken at the Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope, between 10 a.m. and noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Call 335-7000 for more information.
Children ages 12 and under who live within Cape Girardeau are eligible for Toy Box. the Salvation Army is also holding a toy drive for children who live outside the city of Cape Girardeau.
He said he hopes Christmas shoppers will remember to pick up a few items to help Toy Box families while they're out this weekend.
Santa's Jaycees and elves will suit up and deliver toys to children's homes between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Dec. 21.
Power Rangers, Barbies, sports equipment and items for older boys and girls are all needed, as are any type of toy a child might enjoy.
New, unwrapped toys may be dropped off at Boatmen's Bank, Capital Bank, Coldwell Banker, Gulliver's Travels, Commerce Bank, Mercantile Bank, First National Bank, Chuck E. Cheese's, West Park Mall or the Southeast Missourian.
