SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency will open a disaster recovery center in Sikeston at 1 p.m. today. Representatives from FEMA, the State Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be available to answer questions and help people file disaster recovery claims. The center will be at 103 S. Kingshighway. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday until further notice. People can register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3362. SBA representative Garth MacDonald said FEMA directs people to apply for loans with the agency even if the person does not want or qualify for a loan. MacDonald said people should still fill out the forms because if SBA cannot approve the application, the agency refers the case to FEMA's Other Needs Assistance for additional help. FEMA closed its Charleston, Mo., center Wednesday.
