Felon gets 8 years for gun possession

Timothy Drake, 31, of Cape Girardeau was sentenced to 8 years and four months in federal prison Friday for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.

In May 2008, while executing a search warrant at Drake's residence on Village Drive, officers found .22-caliber ammunition and a round of 9 mm ammunition. A subsequent search of Drake's car uncovered two pistols. As a convicted felon, Drake is barred by federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.

In 1997, Drake pleaded guilty in Dunklin County to felony drug charges.
