Two area men sentenced for firearm charges

Two area men, Jimmy Quinn, 53, of Sikeston, Mo., and William S. Smith, 38, of Perryville, Mo., were sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Cape Girardeau on unrelated firearms charges.

Quinn was sentenced to 180 months in prison for being previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He has two prior convictions for assault and one for attempted burglary in Mississippi County. Smith was sentenced to 30 months in prison for being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He has a 1988 conviction for burglary in Perry County.

Illegal alien pleads to transporting other aliens

A Mexican man pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Cape Girardeau to five felony counts of immigration violations. Angel Figueroa-Camacateco, 28, pleaded to four counts of transporting illegal aliens and one count of entering and remaining in the United States without obtaining legal consent for admission. He faces up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines. Sentencing was set for Feb. 25 in Cape Girardeau.

Figueroa-Camacateco has been removed from the United States on four other occasions, prosecutors said.
