FCE Council meets

The Cape Girardeau County FCE Council meeting was held Dec. 6 at the County Extension Education Center in Jackson, Mo. Host club was Cheerful Country Doers.

Lamplighters FCE was in charge of the devotional and prayer before the luncheon.

Lee Anderson conducted the business session.

A report on the state meeting was given by Dortha Strack. It was noted Cape Girardeau County donated $148 to pay the salary of a doctor for one year in the rural areas of Calcutta.

State awards received by Cape County clubs include: Country Classic Special Projects, Peoples Choice, and Global, all first place; Environmental, second place; and Community Successful Project Report.

Mary Klaproth reported on the three tours taken this year, and asked for suggestions for tours next year.

It was noted the spring district meeting is in April, and National FCE Conference is in July.

A scholarship awarded to Stacey Huffman was accepted by her mother.

Sixteen dolls were donated for Child Advocacy Day in January.

Paul Klaus presented the program on "Spending the Night at the Bottom of the World," which was about his experience at the South Pole.

Liesl Schoenberger played holiday and other songs on the violin.

County officers installed by Mary Gosche are: Ruth Pohlman, president; Shirley Cracraft, vice president; Agnes Wachter, recording secretary; Elvira Percival, corresponding secretary; Opal Collins, treasurer; and Nelda Crader, public relations.

Council pins were awarded to 2001 and 2002 members.

An auction was held after the meeting.

The meeting closed with a Christmas poem read by Pohlman.
