JACKSON -- The Dec. 4 meeting of the Family, Community, Education Council was held Dec. 4 in the fellowship hall of New McKendree United Methodist Church.
Erma Meyer gave the devotional, and Mary Klaproth presided.
It was decided to amend the club's constitution and for each club to donate two dolls to be presented at Advocacy Day in Jefferson City Jan. 27.
The group decided to continue having booths at SEMO District Fair, and will participate in the essay contest for fourth graders in Cape Girardeau County in January.
It was announced the FCE scholarship has been awarded to Andrea Mouser, and Verna Vogel reported the shopping trip to Belleville, Ill., and Our Lady of the snows is Dec. 13.
President packets for 1998 were distributed and reviewed. South Africa is the country to be studied next year.
A brief report was given on the state and district meetings held in September and October, and a special project is planned for a hand-made quilt.
Members were reminded that Marilyn Retherford will be a candidate for the extension council, with voting to be in January.
The morning program was presented by Cpl. Charlie Herbst of the Cape Girardeau Police Department. The noon luncheon was served by members of Mary and Martha Circle of the church. Erin Darter, a student at Jackson High School, sang a medley of seasonal songs for the afternoon program.
Using a candy bar theme, new officers were installed by Mary Gosche. They are: Opal Collins, president; Agnes Wachter, vice president; Carole Byrd, recording secretary; Verna Petzoldt, corresponding secretary; Jackie Rutherford, treasurer; and Marjorie Swan, public relations.
The next quarterly meeting is March 5 at the extension office in Jackson.
