Fatal shootings timeline

The past few months have seen a rash of fatal shootings in the Southeast Missouri area. Fatal shootings aren't uncommon in the region, but the frequency of fatal shootings since December is. Here is a timeline of fatal shootings in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois in the last 10 years from the Southeast Missourian archive.

2008 Feb. 15 Zachary C. Snyder, 23, was shot at a Themis Street apartment complex as a state fugitive recovery agent attempted to serve a warrant on him for parole violation.

2007 Dec. 3 Mir Shahin Moshiri, 36, shot and killed his daughter, Madison Moshiri, 4, at their Jackson home, before committing suicide. He also shot his stepson, Michael R. Jeffers, 16, who later died of his wounds, as well as his wife, Katherine Moshiri, and their 2-year-old daughterm Meghan Moshiri.

2007 July 31 Charles A. Caldwell, was shot and killed during an armed robbery at Brown Bag Video II in McClure, Il. A store clerk was also shot and wounded, but survived with only minor injuries. Michael Fencil was charged in both the robbery and the killing.

2007 July 27 Michael Strong was allegedly shot with his own gun while lying on the sofa at the Scopus, Mo., residence he shared with Lisa A. Barlow, 43. Barlow was charged with the murder of her boyfriend.

2007 March 27 Richard Sterling, 37, of Morehouse, Mo., was shot to death near Cronies Sports Bar & Grill at Sikeston, Mo. Witnesses stated he was shot by Lee R. King II, 33, after an argument over Sterling's ex-wife.

2006 Dec. 22 Robert Pitts Sr., 45, and his wife, Marcia, 43, were shot in the head at their home in Jonesboro, Ill. Their 23-year-old son, Robert Pitts Jr., was indicted in the murders.

2006 Nov. 14 Owen Welty, 13, allegedly shot and killed his 64-year-old neighbor, Donald McCollough, near Bloomfield, Mo.

2006 Feb. 9 Larrell Taylor, 25, was fatally shot in Sikeston, Mo. Samuel D. Owens, 21, of Sikeston, was charged in the case.

2006 Jan. 25 Jacob Bowers, 17, was fatally shot behind Du-Shell's Furniture, 2103 St., in Cape Girardeau. Authorities believed Bowers was attempting to rob a drug dealer, when the shooting occurred. Bernard Richards, 19, was charged in the incident.

2005 Dec. 26. Police found Lawrence J. Warren of Poplar Bluff, Mo., in a pickup truck idling near the home of his girlfirend. He was shot once in the chest and once in the head. Derrick McFarland, 25, was later found guilty of hiring a man to shoot and kill the teen.

2005 March 20 Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Carl Graham Jr. was shot ad killed at in Carter County. Lance Shockley of Van Buren, Mo., was charged with the murder.

2004 June 17 Ginny Harris Grandberry, 37, was found dead inside her Neelyville, Mo., home. She was a allegedly shot by her teenage son, Lewis Harris, after she she threated to take away his guns.

2004 March 1 Glen L. Lang Jr., 38, of Cairo, Ill., was fatally shot in an altercation at 40 Eastwood Drive in East Cape Girardeau, Ill.

2004 Feb. 7 Stephanie Renee Abbott of Bragg City, Mo., was charged with the fatal shooting of her husband, Gregory Allen Abbott.

2004 Jan. 1 Anton Shamon Miller was fatally shot in the back while outside The Taste, an after-hours nightclub at 402 Good Hope St. in Cape Girardeau. Two men were arrested in the shooting.

2003 Nov. 1 Just before 2 a.m., Terry Vernon Lynn II, an architecture student at Southeast Missouri State University was fatally shot outside Players Lounge, 632 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. Gregory A. McNeely later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

2002 Aug. 18 Billy Jones Jr. was shot and killed near the National Guard Armory in Cape Girardeau. Jibril Walton, 25, was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

2002 July 16 Steven White was fatally shot in Sikeston, Mo. Later charged in the homicide were Andrew B. Laura and Marcus Johnson.

2002 July 7 Ralph Lee Lape Jr., 54, was kidnapped from his home near Jackson. His assailants -- Justin Brown and Mark Gill -- beat, bound and took Lape to a cornfield in New Madrid County near Portageville, Mo. There they dug a shallow grave and shot Lape. They plotted to kill him after learning he had a large sum of mney.

2002 March 15 Mary Boitnott, who lived with her husband, Robert, was shot in the head, apparently by a neighbor, Wilford Griffith, in the Star Vue Mobil Home Park. Griffith allegedly entered Boitnott's mobile home and shot her in the back of the head. She was still in bed. He then went to Ed's Bar on Good Hope Street, where he exchanged gunfire with a patron there. Griffith was killed in that exchange.

2002 Feb. 22 Gary Lee "Bud" Ayers, 52, of Wappapello, Mo., was gunned down at Bud's Country Store. Police alleged the three gunmen intended to burglarize the store so they could get some money. They were then going to get anhydrous ammonia and pseudoephedrine pills so they could manufacture methamphetamine.
