NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Police are seeking information after marijuana was found growing in a New Madrid County corn field.

The New Madrid County Sheriff's Department was contacted Thursday by a local farmer about possible marijuana plants growing in his field, according to a news release.

Sgt. Danny Ware, a criminal investigator, responded to the field on New Madrid County Road 707. The farmer said he found the plants while harvesting his corn. The plants were approximately 5 feet tall and were found about 30 feet into the corn field. The plants were seized and transported to the sheriff's department to be destroyed, the release said.

New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens asked anyone with information about the plants to contact the sheriff's department at 573-748-2516.
