A family trust from Wisconsin has donated $2,000 to the Family Learning Center thanks to Catherine Taylor Foster.
Foster is the chairman of the Nursing Department at Southeast Missouri State University.
The Jack DeLoss Taylor Charitable Trust was founded in 1989 and is designed to benefit children. Taylor was Foster's father.
"We were supporting the United Way in Wisconsin," Foster said. "I live in Cape Girardeau now. When I moved here a year ago, I sought Dorothy Klein out because of our previous involvement with the United Way in Madison."
The Family Learning Center is one of the Area United Way agencies. It is a therapeutic preschool for abused, neglected or severely emotionally disturbed children. In addition to treatment for the children, the school provides family and individual therapy for parents. Therapists help teach parenting skills, management of finances, whatever the family needs to function better.
"In our view, this program was very much in keeping with the trust," Foster said.
