MORLEY, Mo. - A Sikeston teenager was sent to a Cape Girardeau hospital Monday night after his vehicle failed to stop for a stop sign and hit a tree.

At around 10:40 p.m., the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to an accident off Route C, 3 miles east of Morley.

Alex Z. Hornburg, 18, was driving his 1997 BMW when he failed to stop for a stop sign, ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

Hornburg and passenger Zachary M. Pierce, 17, of Benton, Mo., were both taken by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center. Hornburg was treated for serious injuries while Pierce sustained moderate injuries.

Neither teen was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, the highway patrol said.
