Otto Porter Jr.'s path to the NBA turned out to be a short walk.

With the third pick in Thursday's NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards selected the former Scott County Central High School star, who played the past two years at Georgetown University, a short walk from the Wizards' home floor in downtown Washington, D.C.

"It's a dream come true to get drafted and then getting a chance to play in D.C., where I played two years in college," Porter said.

* Porter held back tears as he tried to describe sharing the moment with father Otto Sr., mother Elnora and brother Jeffrey, who were at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., for the draft.

"It was amazing to see the smile on his face," Porter said of his father, Otto Sr., "and my mom's face. All the hard work they put in raising me the right way, it's finally paid off for them."

* The 6-foot-8 Porter provides the Wizards a small forward to go with a backcourt of former first-round picks John Wall and Bradley Beal.

* The 20-year-old Porter led the Hoyas last season with 16.2 points and 6.8 rebounds a game.
