Steven Hendricks of Cape Girardeau has received the governor's scholarship for the 2004-05 academic year at Southeast Missouri State University. Hendricks is the son of Larry and Candy Hendricks of Cape Girardeau.

Pelikan, Wilburn given Southeast scholarships

Christy Pelikan of Cape Girardeau and Alicia Wilburn of Advance, Mo., have received president's scholarships and Missouri Leadership awards to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-05 academic year. Pelikan is the daughter of Richard and Belinda Pelikan of Cape Girardeau. Wilburn is the daughter of Darla and Donnie Bohnsack of Advance and Rex Wilburn of Neelyville, Mo.

Southeast graduate noticed for space work

Maria Palmieri of Cape Gir-ardeau, a Southeast Missouri State University graduate who is now a graduate student at Miami University in Ohio, has been recognized for her botany research by the American Society for Gravitational and Space Biology and Lockheed Martin Space Operations. Her plant research won second place at the society's annual meeting in Alabama last month.

Jackson FCCLA attends leadership conference

The Jackson High School chapter FCCLA officers and advisers recently attended a leadership conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. The theme was "American Leader," and students worked on leadership skills through different activities during the two-day conference.

Kelly students fix up elementary schoolyard

Students in the landscaping and turf management class at Kelly High School recently completed a project at the elementary school entrance. Students replaced several tons of soil and replaced it with gravel to eliminate puddling next to a sidewalk. They also rebuilt a flower bed around the school sign.

Kimbel gets John Guild DAR good citizen award

Nicole Kimbel, a senior at Jackson High School, recently received the good citizen award from the John Guild Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Kimbel and family members were guests at a DAR award banquet in November.

Alumni give 2003 Oran graduates scholarships

The Oran High School class of 1973 recently awarded three scholarships to 2003 Oran graduates. The recipients were Jonathan Burns, son of Gary and Wanda Burns of Perkins, Mo.; Alicia Webb, daughter of Belinda Webb of Oran; and Emily Young, daughter of Patrick and Janice Young of Oran.

Two named to dean's list at Washington University

Justin Cox of Scott City and Joseph Walter of Jackson were named to the dean's list at Washington University for the spring 2003 semester. Cox is the son of Debbie Cox. Walter is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Walter.

Scott City student garners DAR recognition

Jessi Glueck, a student at Scott City High School, recently received an award from the King's Highway Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Glueck is the daughter of Steve and Donna Glueck of Scott City. She is a member of the science club, pep club, student council, choir and yearbook staff.
