Essner earns doctorate from Ohio University

Richard L. Essner, Jr., recently graduated with a doctorate in biological sciences from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Essner Sr. of Perryville, Mo. While at Ohio University, he researched biomechanics through grants from the National Science Foundation, Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology and the American Society of Mammalogists.

He is a 1989 graduate of St. Vincent de Paul High School in Perryville and a 1993 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.

Benton student accepted to Yale University

Julia Vetter of Benton, Mo., has been accepted to Yale University.

She is the daughter of Michael and Ruth Vetter, and 2003 valedictorian at Kelly High School.

Vetter is one of only 1,300 students accepted to Yale this year.

McGuire receives scholarship to SEMO

Matthew Paul McGuire of Jackson recently received the general education scholarship to Southeast Missouri State University.

He is the son of Rick and Teresa McGuire of Jackson.

Area students earn spot on dean's lists

Amanda Ratliff of Cape Girardeau was named to the spring 2003 semester dean's list at Southeastern College in Lakeland, Fla.

Rachel Stanley of Cape Girardeau was recently named to the spring semester 2003 dean's list at Northeastern University in Boston.

Jackson student earns scholarship from Drury

Erin Lynn Holshouser of Jackson recently received a scholarship from Drury Restaurants, a Burger King franchisee based in Cape Girardeau.

Holshouser has worked at the Jackson Burger King for over a year and graduated from Jackson High School. She is pursuing a degree in elementary education at Southeast Missouri State University.

Notre Dame grad named to National Honor Roll

Adam Fenwick was recently named to the 2003 Spring Edition of the National Honor Roll.

He is a 2003 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School and attends the University of Missouri-Columbia.

He is the son of Steve and Nancy Fenwick of Cape Girardeau.

Fenwick graduates with honors from SLU

Ryan Fenwick of Cape Girardeau recently graduated summa cum laude from St. Louis University with bachelors' degrees in communication and international studies.

He was also named to the dean's list at the School of Arts and Science for the spring 2003 semester.

Fenwick is a 1999 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School and is the son of Steve and Nancy Fenwick of Cape Girardeau.
