Area students attend leadership program
More than 130 high school students from across the state recently attended the Missouri Chamber of Commerce Leadership in Practice program in Mexico, Mo. Representing Central High School were Chris Griffith, Zach Kluesner, David Zimmer and Terrence Juden. Representing Notre Dame Regional High School were Eden Ellison and Jessica Ellis.
The three-day program is designed to provide high school students with an opportunity to learn about leadership.
Pauley takes part in military academy's camp
Colton Pauley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Pauley of Burfordville, Mo., was among the 34 boys between the ages of 8 and 11 to participate in Missouri Military Academy's fifth annual Summer Confidence Camp.
The weeklong event, which drew campers from 9 states, emphasized developing self-assurance, personal responsibility and teamwork through activities such as archery, rappelling and camping.
Local student earns advanced degree from SIU
Beth Forshee of Cape Girardeau was among 438 students to received advanced degrees from Southern Illinois University Carbondale during the spring commencement ceremony.
Students recognized in scholarship program
Kelsey Shearson and Madalyn Bruegging of Jackson recently received recognition in the 2003 Miss Teen of Missouri Scholarship and Recognition Program.
Bruegging, the daughter of Kathryn King and Robert Bruegging, received the personal development award.
Shearson, the daughter of Alan and Ginger Shearson, was named a merit finalist in the competition.
Bennett named to Baylor University dean's list
Patricia Bennett of Cape Girardeau was among 2,000 students at Baylor University in Waco, Texas to be named to the spring 2002 semester dean's list.
Two local students named to Truman honors list
J. Luke Van Cleve and Alicia Barks of Cape Girardeau have been named to the 2003 vice president's list at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo.
Van Cleve is the son of John and Mary Van Cleve. Barks is the daughter of Jean and Melvin Barks.
Maguire earns bachelor's degree from DePauw
Courtney Maguire of Cape Girardeau was among 455 students awarded degrees during DePauw University's spring commencement ceremony.
Maguire received a bachelor's degree from the university, which is located in Greencastle, Ind.
Area student receives scholarship to SMSU
Jackson High School graduate Amanda Dumey is one of 20 students to receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Johnson Controls Foundation.
Dumey's father, David Dumey, is a Johnson Controls employee. She plans to attend Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
McClane awarded administrative scholarship
Katherine McClane of St. Louis has been awarded the International Association of Administrative Professionals fall 2003 scholarship.
McClane, who is a student at Southeast Missouri State University, was sponsored by the Girardot Chapter of IAAP. She is the daughter of Theresa and Jack McClane of St. Louis.
