Six students awarded president's scholarships
Southeast Missouri State University has awarded president's scholarships to six area students -- Tyler Yager of Cape Girardeau, Hannah Robert and Laura Reinbett, both of Scott City, Heather Boyles and Courtney Crowden, both of Jackson, and Joshua Bohnert of Altenburg, Mo.
The scholarship is worth $1,500 per academic year for up to four consecutive years.
Yager is the son of Ray and Amy Yager of Cape Girardeau. Robert is the daughter of Tom and Ginny Robert of Scott City. Reinbett is the daughter of David and Cheryl Reinbett.
Boyles is the daughter of Doug and Jane Sanders of Jackson. Crowden is the daughter of Chuck and Kim Crowden of Jackson. Bohnert is the son of Matthew and Sara Bohnert of Altenburg.
Two local students earn spots on honor roll
Stephanie Davis and Stephanie Jordan of Cape Girardeau were named to the academic honor roll at the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo.
Area 4-H members to attend national congress
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Amanda Birk of Burfordville, Mo., Barbara Kammler of Perryville, Mo. and Kari Fields of Jackson will be among 30 4-H members from across the state representing Missouri at the National 4-H Congress in November in Atlanta.
The winners were announced during State 4-H Congress in June at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and were selected through an application and interview process that started with nearly 200 applications at the county and regional level.
The 2003 National Congress, with a theme of "Growing into the Future," includes workshops on leadership development, youth empowerment and cultural diversity.
Delegates will tour Centennial Olympic Park, the World of Coca-Cola, CNN Center, the Carter Presidential Library and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Peace Studies.
Area student earns dental assisting certificate
Ashley Nicole Lee, daughter of Edwin and Sharon Lee of Scott City, has earned a certificate of dental assisting from John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill.
She earned a 4.7 GPA on a 5.0 scale, was named to the vice president's list and was accepted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
She has been accepted into the dental hygiene program at the college.
Essner gets bachelor's degree from Mizzou
Matthew E. Essner, a 1999 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, graduated in May from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
He received a bachelor's degree in agricultural systems management and a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics.
Essner is the son of Larry and Betty Essner of Benton, Mo.
Local student earns degree in broadcasting
Neal Stephen Davis of Cape Girardeau recently received a bachelor of science degree in broadcasting and computer science from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
Area students graduate from Mizzou
Local students recently graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Ford earns master's from school of film, television
Jeremy Jerome Ford recently received a master's degree from the School of Film and Television at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
He is the son of Freddie and Angela Ford and Betty Avant of Cape Girardeau, and a 1994 graduate of Central High School. He also holds a bachelor's degree from Chicago State University.
Notre Dame graduate gets medical scholarship
Cody Bell, a 2003 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, recently received a $1,000 scholarship from St. John's Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary and Mercy Medical Group for the 2003-04 school year.
Bell plans to pursue a health-related course of study.
Gibbs to attend leaders conference in July
Justin Gibbs, a student at Jackson High School, was selected to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in July in Washington D.C.
Gibbs will be among 400 National Scholars from around the country attending the 11-day leadership development conference.
Felter retires from Missouri FCCLA
Michelle Felter, a 2003 graduate of Kelly High School, recently retired after serving two years on the Missouri Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America state executive council.
Felter is the daughter of Sam and Jolene Felter of Benton, Mo.
