BERTRAND -- Academic Year in the U.S.A. an international exchange-student agency, has appointed Allen Syre community counselor for the Bootheel.
AYUSA is a nonprofit organization designed by the U.S. Information Agency as a Teenage Exchange Visitor Program.
The program contains unique features designed to provide excellent educational opportunities to selected international students ages 15-18.
Each student lives with a screened and selected family, and is supported by a local community counselor.
AYUSA students are provided with insurance coverage, assistance in emergencies, direct telex-fax communication with the student's overseas sponsor and natural family, and a guarantee of full financial support while in the United States, including return transportation.
Syre will select host families for the 10-month academic year program, conduct a host family orientation meeting, assist in the arrival of the students, conduct a student orientation meeting, and be available to answer questions and provide assistance to host families.
