JULY 14, 21, 28 Old Town Cape Scholarship Garden: Locally grown, fresh organic vegetables are available at the garden, located behind the Spanish Street parking lot next to Mollies, from 3 to 5 p.m. every Saturday July through October.

JULY 14-15, 21-22 Glenn House: Cape's Glenn House, on the National Register of Historic Places, will be open every Saturday and Sunday in July from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information call the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau at 335-1631.

JULY 14 Contra Dance/Watermelon Seed Spitting: The Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will host their regular contra dance event with something extra -- a watermelon seed spitting contest. Event takes place 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

JULY 14, 21, 28 Red House Interpretive Center: The Center opens at 10 a.m. each Saturday and features musical performances, arts and crafts and storytelling, with different featured performances each week. Folk musician Mark Dvorak performs July 14. Arts and crafts by Betina Layton will be on display July 21.

JULY 19 Cape Monthly Dance: The A.C. Brase Arena Building hosts its monthly dance from 7 to 10 p.m. featuring the All Stars Band.

JULY 21 Singles Dance: Parents Without Partners hosts its monthly singles dance from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Cape VFW Hall. Open to the public.
