As of February 2, the Jackson USA Signal has a new editor. Mark Evans, a Bonne Terre native, is now editing the publication.
Evans, who most recently served as sports editor and associate news editor of the Ste. Genevieve Herald, has been a journalist since 1985. He has worked in Dexter, Kennett, Farmington and Poplar Bluff, as well as Ste. Genevieve, and also founded, edited and published his own monthly magazine in Bonne Terre in 1994.
"I'm really looking forward to getting my feet wet here and learning more about Cape County," Evans said. "I hope to get out and meet as many people as possible."
Evans, 36, has won 12 Missouri Press Association "Better Newspaper Contest" awards, as well as awards from the Associated Press and other organizations. An avid history enthusiast he is co-author of a 240-page "coffee table" book on Ste. Genevieve, due out this spring. The book traces the history, unique architecture and surviving French culture of Missouri's oldest town. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Foundation or Restoration of Ste. Genevieve.
He has also served as a Southern Baptist volunteer youth leader in the past and enjoys photography, trivia, sports, reading and writing fiction. He is single.
Evans welcomes reader input and submissions.
