Dr. Robert Tuttle, an evangelism professor at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky., will speak at La Croix United Methodist Church Nov. 3-5.

Tuttle will lead services and speak during a Spiritual Life Weekend sponsored by the church. The schedule of events includes worship at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, and a Saturday seminar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. He also will preach at services at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The topic of the seminar will be "Essential United Methodist Beliefs." There will be a $10 charge, which includes a box lunch. Free child care also is available.

Tuttle came to the church in 1996 for a similar spiritual renewal conference. He was so popular that church leaders decided to invite him again, said the Rev. Ron Watts, pastor at La Croix.

Watts was a student at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla., when Tuttle was a professor there. "I took several classes with him and he was one of the founding pastors of the church that I attended," Watts said.

Tuttle has been a seminary professor for 25 years and returns to churches nearly every month for conferences and seminars. He is best known in Methodist circles as an expert on John Wesley, the denomination's founder.

Tuttle wrote a book about Wesley that is used in many seminaries today, Watts said.

While Methodist churches "trace their spiritual roots to Wesley, Tuttle also talks about renewing the church and that was a theme of Wesley's," Watts said. "That applies to all churches."

The conference is open to any one, but registration is suggested. Call the church office at 339-0302 for more details.
