The university on Monday released its opening-day enrollment for the Springfield campus -- 17,671, up 1.4 percent from last year. The average ACT score for entering freshman is 24.2, also a new high.

Residence halls are filled to capacity with 4,000 students. University officials encourage high school seniors interested in Missouri State to apply early in their senior year.

The university's West Plains campus has 1,715 students, up 7 percent from a year ago.
