State performance standards and national teaching standards will be the focus of the annual fall conference of the Southeast Missouri English Teachers Association.
The association will meet Sept. 23 at Southeast Missouri State University.
The theme of this year's conference is "The Politics of English" and will feature a discussion of Missouri Performance Standards by local legislators followed by a question-answer session.
Group sessions will be presented by area English teachers and will focus on implementing standards in the classroom.
The meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pre- registration fee for the entire conference is $15 and includes lunch and program materials. Registration at the door for each of the program sessions is $5.
