ST. LOUIS (AP) -- U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu will deliver the commencement address at Washington University in St. Louis next month.
The university made the announcement on Thursday.
Chu will speak at the university's 149th commencement at 8:30 a.m. May 21 at Brookings Quadrangle on the Danforth Campus. He will also receive an honorary doctor of science degree.
Chu won the 1997 Nobel Prize in physics as part of a team that learned how to use laser beams and extreme cold to stop single atoms in their tracks, allowing for easier study.
