EMERSON WILL HEAD FLOOD-CONTROL GROUP

U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson has been named president of the Lower Mississippi Valley Flood Control Association.

Emerson has championed flood control, private property rights and land-use issues since her election to Congress in 1996.

Emerson said she would work to strike a balance between land-use and conservation issues.

"Achieving a successful balance is vital to protecting families, businesses and livelihoods so that we can halt overzealous regulation and ensure that people aren't added to the Endangered Species list," she said.
