WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Eighth District Congressman Bill Emerson will be a featured guest this morning on National Empowerment Television. (NET).
Emerson will discuss the need for English to become the official language of the U.S. government. The Cape Girardeau Republican has authored several pieces of legislation to insure the importance of English in American society.
NET is a public affairs station based in Washington, which is available 24 hours a day via satellite on Galaxy 7, Transponder 20V. Emerson's appearance was scheduled from 7-8 p.m. Cape Girardeau time.
"The legislation I have introduced will statutorily declare English to be the official language of the United States," said Emerson. "This bill will not ask minority groups to give up their cultures and it will not prohibit languages other than English.
"It simply states that English is the one language that everybody knows and the one language in which all of our official government business is conducted."
