Emergency funds available to emergency service providers
Cape Girardeau county will receive more than $24,000 to supplement area emergency food and shelter programs, according to Area Wide United Way officials.
Nancy Jernigan, executive director of the Area Wide United Way, said a local board will determine how the funds will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service organizations.
The board will be composed of representatives from local emergency service providers, the Area Wide United Way, Community Caring Council, St. Vincent's Church, the county commissioners' office and the community at large.
Under the terms of the grant, organizations chosen to receive the funds must be non-profit, have an accounting system, practice non-discrimination, demonstrate the capability to delivery emergency food or shelter programs and have a voluntary board if a private voluntary organization.
Qualifying organizations are urged to apply for funds. For more information, call the United Way at 334-9634.
