EMAA Back-to-school fair set for July 15

Affecting more than 250 children in 2002 the East Missouri Action Agency Inc. will hold a back-to-school fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 15, targeting Cape Girardeau County school-age children who are economically disadvantaged. The event will be held at the agency office, 1111 Linden St. in Cape Girardeau, where preregistration will also take place.

With supply needs unmet last year EMAA is recruiting the help of the community for the following goods and services: book bags, calculators, crayons, colored pencils, compasses, dictionaries, glue, markers, paper, pencils, protractors, red pens, rulers, scissors, thesauruses, eye exams, fingerprinting (police department), hair cuts, immunization checks, safety demonstrations and screenings for head lice, hearing and scoliosis. Financial support is also needed.

Individuals interested in attending must be preregistered and verify that they meet the income guidelines; otherwise they will not be permitted to participate in the fair. Children must attend the fair to be eligible for the supplies and services.

Volunteers are still needed to help during the fair and space is available for information booths.
