PERRYVILLE -- Elmer J. Vernon, 96, of Perryville, died Monday, March 6, 1995, at his home.
He was born Dec. 21, 1898, in Wayne County, son of Jacob and Caroline Cureton Vernon. He and Lela Boxdorfer were married July 15, 1924. She died July 30, 1993.
Vernon was a retired farmer. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include eight sons, Harold "Jake," Elvis "Johnny," Willard "Dick," Linnus "Slim," Leroy, Ray "Rusty" and Garry Vernon, all of Perryville; four daughters, Evelyn Cottner, Delores Neuling, Sharon Baudendistel, all of Perryville, Connie Kempfer of Evansville, Ill.; 31 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren, and nine great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, four brothers, five sisters and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. today, and Thursday from 6:30-11:30 a.m.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Lloyd officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
