Seven area students were named Student of the Month by the Cape Girardeau Elk's Lodge 639. They are Sarah Ann Essner Jennifer Kristine Oslund, Sara Jansen, Tiffany Jill Biggerstaff, all of Cape Girardeau; Amy Hughes and Kara Westrich, both of Scott City.
Essner, 18, is the daughter of Steve and Kim Essner of Cape Girardeau. She is a senior at Notre Dame High School and is a member of student council, National Honor Society, the concert choir, volleyball team, Cape Catholic Youth Group, and the spirit club. Upon graduation Essner plans to attend Rockhurst College in Kansas City to study in pre-medicine course.
Oslund, a senior at Cape Girardeau Central High School, is the daughter of Carl and Katherine Oslund of Cape Girardeau. She is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish club, the school newspaper staff and volleyball team.
Jansen, 17, is the daughter of Mike and Marilyn Jansen of Cape Girardeau. She is a senior at Notre Dame High School and is a member of the softball team, student council, National Honor Society and the spring musical cast. Jansen plans to attend college in the fall.
Biggerstaff, 17, is the daughter of Bill Biggerstaff of Cape Girardeau. She is a senior at Cape Central High School and is member of National Honor Society, Renaissance student steering committee, Cape Central's swim team, and letterman's club. Upon graduation, Miss Biggerstaff plans to attend Southeast State University.
Hughes, 17, is the daughter of Norman and Sharon Hughes of Scott City. She is a senior at Scott City High School.
Westrich, 18, is the daughter of Tim Westrich of Cape Girardeau, and Glenda Westrich of Kelso. She is a senior at Scott City High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, science club, FHA, the pompon squad, FBLA, pep club and Key Club. Upon graduation, Westrich plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University.
