Jackson Elks Lodge 2652 held its annual Flag Day Services at Brookside Memorial Park on June 14.
The Elks defined Flag Day as the birthday of the nation's flag, and assisted by Boy Scout Troop 311, defined the history of the flag by presenting actual flags that depicted the changes Old Glory has seen throughout history.
Two points were made: The price of the freedom is bought with constant vigilance, and must be repurchased over and over again through the blood of American men and the greatest significance the flag has is its influence on the hearts and minds of its citizens.
The shape of a Liberty Bell, made up of flowers, was put together by the Elks, as part of the service. Red roses symbolized the lofty expression we have for our nation; white lilies symbolized the dominant virtues we stand for, such as: charity, purity and truth, and violets, reflecting the blue of our flag, symbolizing justice, brotherly love and fidelity.
Following the service, a meal was served by the Elks.
