The filing deadline for April 8 municipal election draws near.
Candidates have until the close of business Tuesday to file for office at their respective municipal clerk's office.
In Jackson, an election for one seat on the board of aldermen in each of four wards will be held. City clerk Mary Lowry said Wednesday that only incumbents Tim Welker, Dave Reiminger, Larry Cunningham and Joe Bob Baker have filed as candidates.
The filing period for city council seats and mayor in Cape Girardeau already has passed. A Feb. 4 primary will be held in the city's Ward 2 that will cut the number of candidates to two for the April 8 election. Three people -- Craig David, Rocky Everett and Shelly Moore -- filed as candidates for the seat. Andrew Bard also filed as a Ward 2 candidate, but did not have enough certified signatures to qualify. Joseph Uzoaru and Teresa Robinson are running in Ward 1.
Incumbent Harry Rediger and a challenger, Walter White, are running for mayor. Councilman Wayne Bowen is unchallenged in Ward 6.
The filing period for this year's August primary election for county-level government offices also is approaching. Filing opens Feb. 25 and closes March 25.
Seats that will be on the ballot in August, and later in November, including presiding commissioner, clerk, circuit court clerk, recorder of deeds, prosecuting attorney, auditor, collector and associate circuit judge.
Filing for those offices takes place at the office of the county clerk.
