Police are searching for a man who robbed a Cape Girardeau business owner while she slept at her shop, according to Sgt. Jason Selzer, spokesman for the police department.
The robbery occurred around 3:20 a.m. at a store in the south part of town, when the elderly shop owner was sleeping on a cot in the back, Selzer said.
The victim later told police she heard the sound of glass breaking and a man entered the store and demanded her money.
When she told him she had none, he threw her onto the floor and grabbed her purse, Selzer said.
The victim suffered minor scrapes on her face and arm, and was treated and released from a nearby hospital, Selzer said.
She was able to give only a basic description of the perpetrator and no one is in custody at this time, Selzer said.
