Christmas for the Elderly organizers hope that gifts for the people featured in the newspaper are on their way to drop-off points today.

Gifts are scheduled to be delivered to the elderly people next week, but deliveries may have to be delayed several days until gifts arrive. We'll wait. We want to be able to give the older residents of community who are in need and alone a merry Christmas. We need your help.

In addition to providing the Christmas gifts, cash donations to Christmas for the Elderly will be used throughout the year to help the elderly cope with financial emergencies.

Often a relatively small outlay, such as purchasing medication one month or perhaps a new pair of shoes, can allow an elderly person to continue living their life in relative comfort.

But without Christmas for the Elderly, these people would have no where to turn for that little extra boost.

Christmas for the Elderly is a joint project of the Cape Girardeau Health Department and the Southeast Missourian newspaper as a way to bring a little holiday cheer to needy, elderly residents.

Gifts may be delivered to the Southeast Missourian office, 301 Broadway, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Gifts may also be delivered to the health department, 1121 Linden, weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Checks may be mailed to Christmas for the Elderly, P.O. Box 699, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701.
