A Cape Girardeau tax and anti-big government protest is growing, with at least eight people from various professions and political persuasions scheduled to speak, organizers said Tuesday,

The event, scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. today in Capaha Park, is designated as a protest for "preserving our nation for future generations," organizer Tom Young of Jackson said. The purpose "is to make people realize they are going to have to do more than vote once in a while," Young said. "They are going to have to get active in politics whether they want to or not."

Speakers are not being announced, but the Southeast Missourian has confirmed that lawyer and conservative author David Limbaugh will speak.

Fellow organizer Tom Foreman of Pocahontas said the organizing committee decided not to publish a list of speakers but said they represent views that include veterans, national sales tax proponents and business people. Foreman said he hopes the protest will make a loud statement. "I read about it online and kind of inserted myself into the process because I do share their views and wanted to be involved in this."
