A reception and book signing honoring nurses from Southeast Missouri Hospital and the Department of Nursing at Southeast Missouri State University who have written books or contributed chapters to nursing texts were honored Friday.

Eight nurses, three from the hospital and five from the university, were on hand to sign books and copies of their work. The event was held in the hospital's Harrison Room.

There was a special display, featuring published work in various journals by 16 nurses from both institutions.

Book authors who were honored during the signing were Drs. Kathryn Kornegay and Elaine Jackson, nurses who co-authored "Continuing Education Workbook for Kornegay's Within Hospital Walls: An Inside Look at Chemical Dependency."

Jackson contributed a chapter on surgical nursing to "Medical Surgical Nursing: Critical Thinking in Client Care."

Dr. Jane Kelley authored "Healing Life's Crises."

Dr. Ann Sprengel authored "Medical Surgical Nursing: Critical Thinking in Client Care" and contributed to "Mosby's Clinical Nursing."

Dr. Janet Weber authored "Nurses' Handbook of Health Assessment" and contributed to "Medical Surgical Nursing: Critical Thinking in Client Care," "Nursing Diagnosis and Intervention: Planning for Patient Care," "Nursing Diagnoses: Application to Clinical Practice" and "Mosby's Clinical Nursing."

Nurse Linda Wessel contributed to "Medical Surgical Nursing: Critical Thinking in Client Care."

Nurse Tonya Buttry contributed to "Medical Surgical Nursing: Critical Thinking in Client Care," while nurse Linda Heitman contributed to "Nursing Diagnosis and Intervention Planning for Patient Care."

Nurses who will be recognized for having articles published in professional journals are Wessel, Heitman, Jackson and Kelly and the Southeast Missouri Hospital staff members Gwen Thoma, Diane Holzum and Julie Sappington. Southeast Missouri State University staff members who have published in professional journals include Dr. Linda Bugle Cathy Thornton, Dr. Gloria Green, Bobbie Morris, and nurse Randle Doty.
