Eight men were arrested on drug charges Tuesday night at the Holiday Lodge in Cape Girardeau.

Six of the eight men were at the hotel in two different vehicles.

Cape Girardeau police officer Paul Zajicek in his probable cause affidavit stated that he responded to a call at the hotel to check out some suspicious activity there.

He saw a purple 1990 GMC with four Hispanic men sitting in front of room 12 of the hotel. The driver of the vehicle, Jose Monsivais, 22, no known address, had no license, no insurance and the license plate on the truck was stolen. None of the men had any identification and they told Zajicek they did not have a room.

Zajicek saw a bag of marijuana in each of two boots in the passenger side of the vehicle. He also found several more bags of marijuana in two different suitcases and 2.8 grams of cocaine in a third suitcase. A beer can with holes punched in it, used for smoking marijuana, was also found, along with six bags with residue.

Altogether 118 grams of marijuana and 1.8 grams of cocaine were seized from the GMC.

The officer also stopped a red 1998 Chevrolet with two more Hispanic men in it, and seized from that vehicle an undetermined but small amount of cocaine and particles of marijuana on the floor.

Witnesses said that Anthony Fisher, 35, 419 Mill St., Cape Girardeau -- who was registered in room 9 -- had been seen standing at the purple GMC talking with the men before police arrived.

Zajicek stated that he contacted Fisher in the room which Fisher said he had rented. Fisher consented to a search. The officer also found Cortez Bell of Cape Girardeau in the bathroom sitting on the toilet with the lid down, flushing something down the toilet. During the search, Zajicek found two crack pipes and a small corner of a baggie on the table.

Zajicek placed Fisher under arrest and as he began to handcuff him, Fisher threw his left shoulder and began struggling. Fisher fought with Zajicek, Officer Adam Glueck and Sgt. Kevin Orr, kicking Orr in the head. Officer Jeff Bourbon was called in with his drug dog to subdue Fisher. Orr was treated at Saint Francis Medical Center for injuries to his head and left ear.

Fisher was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle said that Fisher had been placed on probation Monday after receiving a four-year suspended sentence on a drug possession charge. His bond is set at $35,000.

"It took him until Tuesday night to commit a new crime," Swingle commented.

Monsivais was charged with felony possession of marijuana, felony possession of cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

Also facing the same charges are: Adolfo G. Guevara, 27; Anselmo Viera Silos, 21; and Jose Guadalupe Monsivais, 20. None had known addresses. Bond for Silos and Jose Guadalupe Monsivais was set at $30,000. The others have a $25,000 bond.

Cesario Monsivais, 36, no known address, was charged with felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, and driving without a license. His bond was set at $25,000.

Adrian Uriostegui, 17, of Dallas, and Alfoso Reyes, 36, no known address, were each charged with felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. Their bond was set at $25,000.

All were taken to the Cape Girardeau County Jail.
