TRELEW, Argentina -- A small wooden walkway collapsed Thursday, plunging a group of students and teachers into the frigid river below. Eight children and a teacher drowned, and one student was missing. The children -- ages 12 to 13 -- were taking a photo on the walkway when it collapsed into the swift-moving Chubut river, about 750 miles south of Buenos Aires in Patagonia. Three children and one teacher survived the fall and were hospitalized -- some with hypothermia. School officials said 50 students were on a three-day excursion.
