Eight area residents have received President's scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University during the 1993-94 academic year.
They are: Summer S. Majors and Casey P. Sheehan of Cape Girardeau, Rodney W. Amos of Jackson, Nicole Wadlington and Todd J. Essner of Scott City, Chris R. Blattel of Chaffee, and Kimberly E. Burford and Erika L. Rose of Benton.
The President's Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who rank at least in the upper 20 percent of their high school class and score 25 on the ACT, those who rank in the upper 15 percent of their class and score 24 on the ACT, or those who are their class valedictorian or salutatorian.
The scholarship is worth $1,000 per academic year and is renewable for four years if a 3.3 grade point average is maintained.
Majors is a senior at Cape Central Senior High School. She is the daughter of Hal and Bonnie Majors of Cape Girardeau.
Sheehan, a senior at Cape Central, plans to major in accounting at Southeast. He is the son of Mike and Mary Sheehan of Cape Girardeau.
Amos, a senior at Jackson High School, plans to major in pre-engineering. He is the son of Steve and Cheryl Amos of Jackson.
Wadlington, a senior at Scott City High School, plans to major in physical therapy. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wadlington of Scott City.
Essner is a senior at Scott City High School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim C. Essner of Scott City.
Blattel, a senior at Delta High School, plans to major in chemical engineering. He is the son of Robert and Carla Blattel of Chaffee.
Burford, a senior at Thomas W. Kelly High School in Benton, plans to major in nursing. She is the daughter of Geraldine Bledsoe of Benton and Ronald Burford of McClure, Ill.
Rose, a senior at Kelly High School, plans to major in physical science and language. She is the daughter of Rodger and Donna Huffman of Benton and Michael D. Rose of Cape Girardeau.
