Janette Dumas, a student at Egyptian High School, was recently elected vice-president of the Illinois State Beta Club.
She ran against two other candidates for the statewide office. Competition included campaigning, giving a speech and presenting a skit before 700 club members at the annual convention in Springfield, Ill.
In addition to Beta Club, Dumas is also a member of the student council, chorus, and Photography Club, vice president of the Science Club, co-captain of the softball team, a varsity cheerleader and member of ALPHA (Adolescents Learning Positive Health Alternatives).
Dumas, who will be a senior at Egyptian High School next fall, will attend a leadership conference in Charlotte, N.C., for all state officers in July. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Dumas of Tamms, Ill.
