Andrew Carl Hodges of East Prairie has been nominated to the United State Military Academy in West Point as a cadet for the Class of 1999.
Hodges, who is a senior at East Prairie High School, was accepted to West Point in December. His final admittance was contingent upon a congressional nomination. He received a principal nomination from U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson. Hodges also received a nomination to the United States Air Force Academy by U.S. Sen. Christopher Bond, which Hodges declined.
Hodges is ranked first in his class and qualified for a "Bright Flight" scholarship through his ACT score. He attended the Missouri Scholars Academy. Active for four years in football, basketball and baseball, Hodges has lettered in all three sports and received all-conference selections in football and basketball.
He has been involved in FFA, Beta Club, Student Council and the National Honor Society, and has served as a class officer.
He assisted and coached in the local midget league basketball program and is a member of the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church.
He is the son of Steve and Amy Hodges of East Prairie.
He will report to West Point June 29 for orientation.
