ALTENBURG -- The East Perry Community Fair will celebrate its 75th anniversary Sept. 23-24 in Altenburg.

The first fair was held Oct. 14, 1919, at Altenburg Public School. Charles Grebing, one of the founding committee members, plans to ride in a special car during the parade.

The 1919 fair had a total of 170 entries in 18 classes. The fairs, which lasted from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., were one-day events. After a lapse of 16 years, the fair was revived in 1937, and has taken place each year thereafter with the exception of World War II.

Over the years the fair has been billed as "The Best Little Fair in the Land."
