An East County Fire Protection District pumper truck overturned Friday along Cape Girardeau County Road 621 near the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.

The truck was responding to a barn fire. According to East County fire chief Dwayne Kirchhoff, the driver "was buckled in" and not injured.

The firetruck was heading from the Egypt Mills fire station 5 miles away to a barn fire at Fox Run Stables, 121 Fox Run Lane, off County Road 618. The truck turned off County Road 642 and overturned on its way toward Route W near the Pilot House.

Fire departments from East County, Fruitland, Cape Girardeau and Jackson responded to the fire, which was soon put out. Horses in the barn had been removed before fire crews arrived, Kirchhoff said. A mattress caught fire in the living quarters on the second level of the barn, he said.
