CAIRO, Ill. -- One person is dead and two people injured in a shooting early Sunday morning near Charles' Place, commonly known as the Three Two Club, in Cairo.

Dion Cherry, 27, of Pulaski, Ill., received a gunshot wound to the torso and was transported by helicopter to Southeast Missouri Hospital at Cape Girardeau. He was pronounced dead at 4:14 a.m. Sunday.

Carlos Trenton, 31, of Cairo received one gunshot wound to the arm and was transported to Southeast Missouri Hospital. Mario Hodge, 30, of Cairo received one gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to St. Francis Hospital at Cape Girardeau. Both are currently in stable condition.

Cairo police responded at approximately 2:58 a.m. to a report of shots fired near the club. Upon arrival, officers located two victims in the 300 block of 32nd Street. A short time later, the third victim was located in the 300 block of 33rd Street. Details leading up to the event are under investigation. No suspects were in custody by Sunday night, and the investigation is ongoing by the Cairo Police Department and Illinois State Police crime scene technician.
