MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- A recently vacated office generated the first primary contest of the young political season in Bollinger County as two Republican candidates filed today for circuit clerk.

Jeanneal Vandeven and Tina Broshius-Nenninger filed for the GOP nomination, while Cindy Yount filed in the Democratic Party for the post given up in September by Sharon Lutes. Nick Bollinger, a Democrat appointed to take over the office by Gov. Jay Nixon, had not filed as of 1:45 p.m., said Diane Holzum, Bollinger County Clerk.

Albert D. Cantrell Sr., a Republican, and Kenny Trentham, a Democrat, entered the contest for presiding commissioner to replace incumbent Republican Wayne Johnson, who Holzum said is not seeking re-election.

In the four other county offices on the ballot, incumbents were the only ones to file this morning, Holzum said. Holzum, a Republican, is seeking another four year term, as are Treasurer Naomi Null, a Republican, Collector Bob Anderson, a Democrat, and Dana Fulbright, who filed for another term as recorder of deeds.
