Two Southeast Missouri residents died Thursday in separate car accidents in Dunklin County.

Patricia L. Patrick, 33, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died after an accident near Campbell, Mo.

Police said Patrick was driving a 1994 Dodge van southbound on Highway 53 near Route J, four miles north of Campbell around 7:20 a.m.

She reportedly tried to pass another vehicle and ran off the left side of the road. Police said the van overturned, throwing Patrick out. The van came to rest in a field.

Patrick was taken by ambulance to Three Rivers South Campus in Poplar Bluff, where she later was pronounced dead.

In an unrelated accident, a Hornersville, Mo., resident died in a traffic accident near Arbyrd, Mo.

Police identified the victim as Freda M. Wilkins, 76. Wilkins was driving a 1993 Buick Park Avenue westbound on Highway 164, two miles east of Arbyrd around 9 a.m.

Wilkins reportedly ran off the right side of the road, striking a highway sign and a concrete bridge railing. Police said the car then ran off the road and overturned in a water-filled ditch.

Wilkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
